Handbag Essentials After the Apocalypse

Written by: Emily Alston

Thinking about the end? The end of the pandemic, I mean. If you are, you should be thinking considerably about what you plan on bringing out with you into the wild. For me, it’s prepping my clear backpack for our first venture. We must be prepared and as safe as we can be in these times of social distancing. Having all of the necessary items with you is crucial.

Here’s a list of essentials you should be carrying on you:

  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Does this really need an explanation? You should have already been carrying hand sanitizer before COVID-19, but if you weren’t, now is a great time to start! Hand sanitizer isn’t an absolute substitute for washing your hands but it helps.

  • Lotion
  • If you’re using the above (hand sanitizer…) all the time, you’re gonna need some lotion. Get yourself a cute one to carry in your trendy clear bag that will keep those precious hands from cracking.

  • Wet Wipes
  • You’ll be coming in contact with many foreign surfaces once we are released. My suggestion - clean your space before you take your place. Wipe that seat down. Clean off that door handle. Polish off your clear purse after setting it down on that questionable subway floor. Nothing can ever be too sanitized!

  • Disinfectant Spray
  • Did you know that the coronavirus is an enveloped virus? I know me neither. But it means that the virus is surrounded by something called an outer lipid membrane and ultimately can be killed off with disinfectants. So kill that sucker and carry some spray in your clear handbag!

  • Face Mask/Bandana
  • The CDC recommends we mask, so we mask. Social distancing will be difficult when we are released from our personal prisons, but masks can help reduce the spread of bacteria. I’m a personal fan of the bandana. It gives me this feeling of adventure - as if I’m an outlaw yet I’m only going to pick up oranges from my local grocer.

  • Sunglasses
  • I’m sure you already have a pair in your clear bag now, but if you don’t, grab some! These will come in handy for protecting your precious corneas from not just the sun, but your nasty fingers. As humans, we like to touch our face. I don’t care who you are - you touch your face. And in the time of Rona, we cannot be touching our face. Sunglasses keep your fingers off your eyes and trust me, with a bandana and glasses on, those fingers won’t stand a chance.

There you have it; the top items you should bring with you into the world once we have been released. Be sure to carry them all and stay healthy out there!

P.S. Did you know leather handbags hold more bacteria? Do yourself a favor and shop Margo Paige - it could save your life.
